Four games tonight, and all of them should be highly entertaining.
UConn is going to coast over Seton Hall. The Pirates are not good this year and although UConn’s offense is anemic at times, the Huskies should coast by about 12 points.
Villanova will beat DePaul by about 10. If this game were in Philly, I’d have the Cats favored by 20. I think the Wildcats are quite a bit overrated at #16 right now, but they still have plenty enough to get it done in Rosemont.
Marquette will defeat Providence by 20 at home. I think Providence will have a good season, but I have a feeling they’re going to get shelled tonight. If my memory serves me correctly, PC beat Marquette last year (which I think I picked), and perhaps that loss will add some motivation as well.
Notre Dame will defeat West Virginia by less than 3. This game will come down to the last possession, and Joe Alexander will miss a shot to cost WVU the game. This should be a great game, and I suggest checking it out on ESPN2 tonight.

Who would’ve thought that Nova would lose so badly to DePaul? Not me! Irish looked very good with Harangody an animal down low and a nice 14 foot jumper to go with it. Huggins said that all his players were ‘afraid’ of Luke. Huskies had a good 2nd half after letting up 48 in the 1st. Don’t ever remember UConn giving up 48 points in a half…ever! Marquette is a bona fide powerhouse. Good guard play and Hayward and Barro took command down low. Providence looks lost. St. John’s hung tougher than I expected at SU. USF pounded RU. Look for a bruising game at ND Saturday night when the Huskies come to town.
Joe Alexander was a bit of a disappointment, I have to admit. Either WVU is a lot weaker than people thought they were, or ND is a lot stronger. I’d go with the latter.
I wouldn’t be to worried about WVU, I think ND did a good job at of getting through and switching screens, which WVU’s offense is predicated on and I think WVU just had a bad shooting night. Many times shots went in and out while ND couldn’t miss it seemed like in the first half. I would give the Mountaineers the benefit of a cold shooting night.
Agreed. Both are pretty good teams. Both really heavily on outside shooting and nights like that happen to teams who depend on outside shooting.
I think it’s safe to say UConn gave up 48 in one or both halfs to UCLA in 1995.
WVU has been tearing apart the moderate competition (50-150 type quality) but has lost all three to top 25 types - Tennessee, Oklahoma, and now ND. If they get slaughtered tomorrow, it might be time to focus on the “early season” part of early season blowouts.
WVU’s season is reminding me a lot of last year’s UCONN team — apparently strong in the beginning, but perhaps lacking any real meat. Like you said — we’ll see about it tomorrow.
