Georgetown is the next Duke
October 14, 2007 10:57 am by donaldYes, that’s my thesis.
Over at the G’town blog Van Buren Boys, they break news that Number 1 high school recruit Greg Monroe has verbally committed to Georgetown. The story is that he visited during Midnight madness and, right then and there, gave a verbal commitment to JTIII. He had scheduled visits to Duke, LSU and was also considering UConn, but must have gotten swept up in the weekend’s events.
It still boggles my mind a bit that the number 1 recruit in the nation would want to play in the Princeton offense. Of course, it boggled my mind last year when Austin Freeman and Chris Wright (two McDonalds All-americans last year) signed with the Hoyas. But now it’s all clear to me.
JTIII is transforming Georgetown into the next Duke. It is the next school where you play “the right way” and the media continuously speaks about the upstanding young men. The similarity between the schools is already there — both private, upper middle class universities where basketball is the sport that students follow. And now Georgetown is the Duke of recruiting — besides Greg Monroe, JTIII has also successfully recruited Jason Clark, center Henry Sims and power forward Chris Braswell — all top 100 recruits.
I used to wonder how someone could be a Duke fan — the uppityness and being the perennial favorite because of recruiting…how can it be fun rooting for Goliath? But now, I sort of understand.

JTIII’s Princeton is unique in that it is modified to play either fast pace or slow pace. See Final Four run for Hoyas and see how they won both the slow down games, and the UNC fast pace game.
Thats why everyone want to play in it. They also see pro teams using the offense.
