Big East Tourney: Third Round
March 10, 2007 12:06 pm by donald- Big East Pick ‘Em update: Dan’l B, Coach O, Juice, and Kenny are tied in first place with 17 points. Boss is alone in second place with 15 and Big Perm, Dennis, and Mister D all have 12 points for third place. Then it’s Big Willie Style with 11 points, Julio with 9, Donald (that’d be me) with 8, and Pete with 5. If Pitt wins tonight, Juice takes home the win. If Georgetown wins tonight, it’ll come down to which score of Dan’l B, Coach O, and Kenny is most accurate.
- Officiating last night was horrible: The worst ones in my mind were:
- Hibbert fouling out while battling with Harongody: they both seemed locked up to me. Why make the call when neither was gaining a clear advantage? (Okay, uhm, I was clearly wrong about this one. Check out Hibbert’s hook on Harongody. Even though Harongody’s pushing back, Hibbert’s taking out one of Harongody’s arms. I’d say that’s an unfair advantage.)
- Harongody’s “foul” on Jeff Green: Harongody’s arms were straight up; furthermore, I don’t think he was bodying him enough to warrant a call.
- Padgett foul on Aaron Gray: Gray shot it immediately as he got the ball. It should have either been and “And 1″ or no foul should have been called at all. This one seemed fishy, because it was in Louisville’s strategy at that point to foul Gray (who is an abominable free throw shooter) — was the ref aware of the strategy? He seemed to make the call awfully quick, if you ask me.
Pittsburgh and Louisville bloggers weren’t especially happy with the officiating last night, either. Looks like it was Higgins and Burr at it again.

- Pitt again?!?!: They’ve made it to the Big East championship six of the last seven years. At least I don’t have to see Krauser’s X again. I’d prefer to see Notre Dame and West Virginia myself — two teams that have been in the Big East for more than a decade now, but have yet to win at MSG. Let’s spread the love around a bit.
