Okay everybody, prepare to get really excited. All of us here at BigEastHoops.com decided to try and host a Big East Pick ‘em tournament for the Big East Tournament. We just came up with this idea earlier this week and we weren’t able to put together any fancy format, or computer generated bracket or anything like that. Sorry, it has been a busy week for all of us. Still, I’m going to post the games and you can post your picks below.

Now, if you haven’t noticed already, we know what we’re talking about here. (= And many of our predictions have been right on, especially in the last month. Yea, yea, yea, I tanked on Syracuse. In fact, I had the Cuse and Providence pretty much reversed. But other than that, we’ve been right on, including the Irish finishing ahead of the Golden Eagles, and also Pitt’s fall to third place. So I challenge each and every one of you to try and beat all of us here at BigEastHoops.com. If you win, I’ll be sure to post on your site how much smarter you are than me. What????!!!! No cash reward???!!!! That’s right, there’s no money here, because it’s all about the pride.

OK, so here’s the format:

Correct picks on Wednesday’s games are worth 1 point. Thursday’s quarterfinal games are worth 2, Friday’s winners are worth 3, and if you can pick the winner, you get a whopping 5 points. That’s right! 5 massive points! Also, please list the score of the final as a tie-breaker.

Try and get as many of your people to make picks as possible, and be sure to list who your favorite team is as well. Once the games start on Wednesday, we’ll get a table up here with everyone’s predictions and updated standings.

I’ll post my picks as a response, that way everyone can use that as an example. Good luck!

Bracket is up on Big East website. You got it right!

Sorry Coach O. I know you are going to be torn with two of your favorite teams in the same bracket but not to worry. UConn will be one and done like the old days. I haven’t figured out what is wrong with this team but I can tell you it’s not youth anymore. Something internal is going on that isn’t getting to the papers. I can tell you one thing. I’m not taking off work and loosing money to rush home to watch them loose.

Villanova over DePaul

UConn over Syracuse

West Virginia over Providence

Marquette over St. John’s

Georgetown over Villanova

Notre Dame over UConn

Louisville over West Virginia

Pitt over Marquette

Notre Dame over Georgetown

Louisville over Pitt

Notre Dame over Louisville 84-80

Here’s a summary of why I picked what I did:
Villanova will beat DePaul because they’re a better team. The Wildcats by 6.

UConn over Syracuse. This one is with my heart, not my brain. The last two years I’ve sat in the garden and watched the Orangemen knock out my Huskies. Now this is going to happen three years in a row? No way. Dyson scores 30 and the Huskies upset the Cuse.

West Virginia will beat Providence because ever since I declared the Friars an NCAA caliber team two weeks ago, they’ve gone right in the tank. Way to go Providence, way to make me look like a jackass. West Virginia’s a good team, and Providence has potential. Potential, that’s it. Mountaineers by at least 10. Take that Friars!

Villanova will beat DePaul because they’re a better team. The Wildcats by 6.

Marquette over St. John’s by 18. The Redmen are bad. Marquette is good. Anyone who takes St. John’s is a fool.

Georgetown is the best team in the league and they’ll beat Nova by about 7 or so. I think the Cats can give them a game, but they just don’t have the front court to compete with the Hoyas.

Notre Dame is incredibly balanced, and they’ll beat UConn by 10-15. Jackson and Harangody are incredible, and they’ll show how good they are in this tournament. By the way, if Syracuse were to somehow beat UConn on Wednesday, they’ll lose to the Irish too.

Louisville is getting better every game and although West Virginia will hang tight for a while, the Cards will pull away eventually. Louisville by 10.

Did anyone see Marquette beat Pitt yesterday? Yea, I picked that one. This time, Pitt will win, even if McNeal plays.

Friday’s semis are going to be incredible! First off, Notre Dame will upset the Hoyas. Let’s face it, Georgetown is undoubtedly the best team in this league, but it’s no fun to pick chalk. They outmatch the Irish at most positions, but, like I said before, Notre Dame is very well balanced. Also, the Irish can shoot the ball. This will be a great game, no matter who wins, but I say it’s Notre Dame.

The Louisville and Pitt game will be just as good. I think the Cards have passed Pitt too. They’re the better team, they are one of the few that can match the Panthers aggressiveness, and they’ll win by a touchdown.

In the final, the Cardinals will be looking for revenge for a January game in South Bend in which they got wrecked by Notre Dame. They entire Garden will be red, but sorry Card fans, winning a Big East tournament title is not that easy, and you’re not going to get it done this year. Behind Colin Falls’ 6 3-pointers, Notre dame will hang on to beat Louisville in a tremendous final.

OK everyone, good luck, and bring it on!

You’ve got it all wrong, Big Willie. I respected your Pitt prediction, but I think you might have been living the high life with Kyle McAlarney a bit too much.

Here’s how it will go:

1st round:
Villanova over Depaul
Connecticut over Syracuse
Providence over WVU
Marquette over St. Johns

2nd round:
Villanova over Georgetown
Notre Dame over UCONN
Louisville over Providence
Pittsburgh over Marquette

3rd round:
Villanova over Notre Dame
Louisville over Pittsburgh

Championship:
Louisville over Villanova

A couple of notes:
Villanova over DePaul, because, duh. Villanova over Georgetown because Nova has twice completely shut down Hibbert. Jay Wright’s press really annoys Georgetown, and MSG will have more Nova fans there than Hoya fans.

UConn over Syracuse for the same reasons that Big Willie said. Notre Dame over UConn because UConn isn’t very good. Villanova over Notre Dame because Scottie Reynolds is going to go nuts.

Louisiville beats out Providence and Pitt because Louisville has been playing really well lately and is under the radar a bit.

Pitt over Marquette beacuse of revenge reasons.

Yes, Louisville over Villanova. Louisville is going to go into the NCAAs as a higher seed than they deserve, and then will be upset early on.

Mark my words, my friends. Mark my words.
