2/28/2007 I see in the paper today, the students were camping out for tonights game against Villanova. I guess they can camp out in the cold for a game on campus but can't get up on a Sunday morning and take a bus to Hartford. I hope they will get more involved next year. Thanks Coach Calhoun for a great job and thanks to the players for a great effort.

I guess that Jimmy B isn't the only one unhappy with the lack of students at the game.

Here's a quote from Calhoun in the Hartford Courant this morning.

Calhoun on the announced sellout crowd of 16,294, which included about 1,000 empty seats: "I'd like to see more students here. There [were] only two more times to see us. The people that were here were terrific. ...

I was at the UConn game and I have to say that the place was full again except for the student section. It was rockin’ and it did get quite noisy. I did take another picture of the student section and passed it along to someone that can post it here. We already showed our displeasure with the students when I took that picture at the Rutgers game. It’s not much different this time. If there is anyone that is bandwagonny it’s the students, SHAME on them again for not coming out on a Sunday afternoon to support their team. I’m sure that the students being there would not have made a difference in the outcome of the game but it’s always great to look up and know that you are being supported in hard times. Who knows, if they had been showing up all year maybe it might have made a difference at this stage in the season. I do know that it can’t be a good thing as a player when you look up and see the non student crowd there screaming and no students in the end zone. UConn students >>>> bandwagonny……

North Carolina too.

UConn traditionally has very fair weather fans. When they're good, they show up in massive numbers, when they suck, they're no where to be found. I guess that's true with most schools, but certain places, like the Cuse and Notre Dame, aren't as bandwagonny, that's right, bandwaggony, as the Huskies.

I did get to catch some of the UCONN game. I liked the way the Hartford Civic Center felt -- it seemed like the crowd was earnestly behind the team. Even when the Huskies fell behind, the crowd didn't get frustrated with or down on the team. It would've been good for the Huskies to have that game, but alas, it wasn't to be.

I was also impressed by how patient Louisville was on offense.

Also caught some of the Wisconsin/Ohio State game. Conley has impressed me, but I'm not a huge Oden fan. He had what...four rebounds? I still think Wisconsin's better than OSU, and I don't think OSU is that good at all. Only Florida has been truly impressive to me this year as a heavyweight.
